CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Ballet/Tap Combo classes:
These classes are designed to introduce children to the basics of ballet and tap. The classes focus on creative movement, stretching, musical interpretation, following instructions, and developing control and stability. The Pre-K class is 45 minutes long, and the other combo classes are 1 hour long.
Ballet (beginner, intermediate, and advanced):
This is a one hour class focuses on traditional ballet technique and flexibility. Barre work, center exercises, and across the floor routines are used to build muscle control and strength.
*Pointe classes require students to be at least 11 years old and have at least 2-3 years of ballet training at the intermediate ballet level. (Must be approved to register for pointe.)
Jazz(beginner, intermediate, and advanced):
This is a one hour class in which students will work on skills such as turns, leaps, and jumps with an emphasis on stretching and coordination.
Tap (beginner, intermediate, and advanced):
This one hour class focuses on learning the steps and sounds associated with percussive footwork and rhythmic patterns.
Hip hop (beginner, intermediate, and advanced):
This one hour, age appropriate class, focuses on executing movements. Students will learn to make movements with precision, direct power to different parts of the body, and channel the attitude of music. These classes will offer high energy hip hop choreography to current music.
Lyrical (beginner, intermediate, and advanced):
These styles are created from the fusion of ballet and jazz dance techniques. It is performed to music with lyrics to inspire movements to express strong emotions the choreographer/students feel from the lyrics in the chosen song. This style of dancing focuses on the expression of strong emotion and concentrate on individual approach and expressiveness!
Musical Theatre:
This style gives students a chance to learn Broadway style choreography and technique from musicals new and old!
Pom: Pom incorporates the use of proper pom motion technique that is sharp, clean, and precise while incorporating other dance styles like jazz and some hip hop elements. Girls will use pom poms in recital!
Pointe Requirements:
Must have taken ballet 3 years in a row. Those years must consecutive and one must be Intermediate Ballet.
Must be enrolled in Intermediate Ballet.
Must approved by teachers to start... (looking for ankle strength, leg strength, and technique we think is required for safety).
Even if you meet these requirements, it is up to the teacher to decide if the student is ready.
Solo/Duet/Trio Rules:
(These do not apply to Senior Solos)
*Must be in 6th grade or higher to do a solo in recital
*Must be in 3rd grade or higher to do a duet/trio in recital
*Must have danced with TDC and completed a minimum of 2 years in the style of your dance choice.
*Must be currently enrolled at TDC in the style of your dance choice
*First come first serve- you must register for solo/duet/trio on the website along with class registration in May/June. We have a limited amount of spots each season.
*Song/costume must be picked WITH the teacher and approved by the teacher. The teacher has the final say.
*Only 1 solo per person per season (not counting duets/trios)
*You cannot miss more than 3 classes per class during semester 1 to do a solo. You have to be devoted to dance and not at other activities during our normal class times.
